The Violin Pro-Hold is designed to fit almost all violin and viola shoulder rests. It conforms to your individual body form, making it a versatile tool for players of all ages and skill levels.

Once you find your ideal holding position, you can easily lift your instrument off the magnet and click it back into position quickly.
Easy to Install
Violin Pro-Hold consists of three component that are easy to install, adjust, and use. (See Photos 1, 2 & 3)
For one light weight shirt layer (Photo 1):

Place the black Velvet-Mag Strip (A) under your shirt. Ensure one white dot is facing up and forward to utilize one magnet.

Adhere the black Velvet-Mag Square (B) over your shirt. This will hold the Velvet-Mag Strip securely in place.

(Optional) Add your own fabric over the Velvet-Mag Square. This can help match the appearance with your shirt.
For two shirt layers (Photo 2):

Place the black Velvet-Mag Strip (A) under your outer shirt. For heavier shirts or a jacket, orient two white dots are facing up and forward to utilize two magnets.

Adhere the black Velvet-Mag Square (B) under the inner shirt. This will secure the Velvet-Mag Strip in place.

(Optional) For jackets with shoulder pads, consider purchasing an additional Velvet-Mag Square to increase the magnetic gripping strength.
Install Mag Strap on Shoulder Rest (Photo 3):

Wrap the black Mag Strap (C) tightly around your shoulder rest. Securely fasten with the hook and loop surfaces in the back.

Note the slight magnet protrusion. This is designed to nestle into thicker foam-padded shoulder rests for optimal comfort.

The Inspiration
The inventor and owner, Ken Ruhnke, was motivated to create this adjustable magnetic system following a neck injury. His quest to find a more comfortable and secure way to hold his violin led him to a demonstration by violinist Daniel Kurganov. Kurganov used a magnet under his shirt and another magnet over his shirt connected to a rubber band to hold his violin on his shoulder. Inspired by this, Ken began experimenting with various magnets and configurations, incorporating valuable suggestions from fellow violinists and engineers at the OSU New Product Development Center.
Dr. Yein Lee D.O., a physician at the Texas Center for Performing Arts Health, Fort Worth, Texas, successfully treated Ken, found the magnetic system ingenious and immediately recognized its potential to benefit other musicians. She is an violinist, uses the Violin Pro-Hold, and thought it would help her patients.
Physical Therapist Cathy Huges prescribed an essential series of muscle strengthening routines resulting in Ken’s recovery. Her insights were helpful in refining the design to be more ergonomic and comfortable.
