Violin Pro-Hold is for violin and viola players seeking a more secure and effortless way to hold their instrument on their shoulder. It's innovative magnetic system is designed to provide consistent positioning and stability to reduce fatigue.

Why violinists, violists and fiddlers like the Violin Pro-Hold:

Effortless Stability – A strong magnetic anchor keeps your instrument firmly in place, even during the most dynamic performances.

Reduced Physical Strain – Requires little or no downward chin or jaw pressure—minimizes tension in the head, neck and shoulders.

Natural, Healthy Posture – Encourages relaxed, ergonomic alignment, supporting long-term playing health and injury prevention.

Freedom of Movement – Play with full expressiveness—move your head and body freely while your violin stays secure.

Confident Re-Positioning – Lift your instrument and easily “click” it back into perfect position—no readjustment needed.

Adaptable for Every Player – Customizable fit for all body types, sizes, and skill levels. Works with nearly all shoulder rests.

Ideal for Students – Helps beginners develop a balanced, relaxed hold from day one, building confidence and proper technique.

Enhanced Head Mobility – Move your head naturally to look around, turn pages, or make eye contact—without worrying about your violin shifting.

WARNING: Do not use this magnetic product if you are using an electronic cardiac implant, pacemaker, monitor and/or defibrillator.

How it Works

VPH on music.png

The Violin Pro-Hold is a thin, light weight magnetic support system with three main components:

  • A. MagBase: A soft and flexible strip is placed under your clothing, creating a comfortable, discreet and stable magnetic anchor on your shoulder.

  • B. SecureMag: A small magnetic disk secures the MagBase in place and is placed either over or under your clothing.

  • C. RestMag: A soft flexible velcro-like strap with a magnet wraps around your shoulder rest. This allows it to magnetically connect to the MagBase Strip and effectively anchor the instrument to your shoulder.

Easy to Install

Install RestMag (Photo 1):

  • Wrap the black velcro-like RestMag strap tightly around your shoulder rest and fasten the hook and loop in the back. Trim off excess strap with scissors.

  • The slight magnet protrusion will nestle into foam-padded shoulder rests for optimal comfort.

For one light weight shirt layer (Photo 2):

  • Place the black MagBase (A) strip under your shirt. Ensure one white dot is facing up and forward to utilize one magnet.

  • Attach the SecureMag (B) disk over your shirt to hold the MagBase strip securely in place.

For two shirt layers (Photo 3):

  • Place the black velvet-like MagBase (A) strip under your outer shirt or inner shirt. For a heavier shirt or jacket, orient two white dots facing up and forward to utilize two magnets.

  • Attach the black velvet-like SecureMag (B) disk under or over your inner shirt to sandwich your clothing and secure the MagBase strip in place. Or you can place the SecureMag over the outer shirt layer as shown in Photo 2.

Testimonials

Sketch of violinist using Violin Pro-Hold

"I purchased Pro-Hold several weeks ago and it’s been a great aid in supporting the instrument. It’s a simple, elegant solution to a nagging problem that I and many other players may experience. Pro-Hold is very comfortable and extremely secure without being static. When you raise the violin into place, it attaches itself with a very satisfying “click”. You don’t notice it’s there until those moments when it’s required. It’s such a relief, be able to adjust my positioning from time to time with confidence, knowing that the instrument will not move out of place."   Greg Badigian

"I have a 12 year old student who was not keeping her violin on her shoulder, so I had her try the Pro-Hold and it was an instant fix. She likes it and says its easy to use."

Betty Schoonover, Schoonover String Studio

"The best feature in my opinion is its flexibility. The fact that it attaches to one's clothing allows movement through a range of expressive motion without fear that the instrument will drift out of position!  Thank you for a wonderful addition to the world of violin playing."   Greg Badigian

About Violin Pro-Hold

Proudly made in the great state of Oklahoma, USA, the Violin Pro-Hold (Patent Pending) is the result of a personal journey and a commitment to innovation.

The Inspiration

The inventor and owner, Ken Ruhnke, was motivated to create this adjustable magnetic system following a neck injury. His quest to find a more comfortable and secure way to hold his violin led him to a demonstration by violinist Daniel Kurganov. Kurganov used a magnet under his shirt and another magnet over his shirt connected to a rubber band to hold his violin on his shoulder. Inspired by this, Ken began experimenting with various magnets and configurations, incorporating valuable suggestions from many violinists and engineers at the OSU New Product Development Center.

Dr. Yein Lee D.O., a physician at the Texas Center for Performing Arts Health, Fort Worth, Texas, utilized a physical therapist to successfully treat Ken. Dr. Lee found the magnetic system ingenious and immediately recognized its potential to benefit other musicians. She is a violinist, uses the Violin Pro-Hold, and thought it would also help her clients.

Our Commitment

We are committed to helping musicians of all ages and skill levels achieve their best playing experience.
